This post does not require much introduction. Cupcakes. Chocolate icing. Roses. Need I say more?
Trust me, they're good..............

Angelina's Farewell.
Last night of COURSE ONE!!!! I passed. With flying colors. Or something like that. We learned the Wilton Rose tonight. It looks so easy, however, it's TOUGH!!! I think I did arlight, at least the roses I made don't look like a 4 year old made them..... hopefully.
My Education Specialist (PCS) at work is leaving and taking a new job at Mercy so I made a cake for her potluck tomorrow. And I had to capture the certificate!!!

Pom-Poms and Shaggy Mums.
Third week of class finished. Decorated some cupcakes with pom-pom flowers, shaggy mums, and drop flowers. Also practiced the shell border/tip (HARD for me) and learned about different ways to display alternate looking leaves.
The batch I brought to work. Looks lovely doesn't it?.... Yes I ate one. Don't judge me. I should note it was these cupcakes that got me my first order of cakes. Stay tuned for those in a few weeks!!!!
They were fun to do. Cupcakes are definitely the way to go for something quick and easy. These are of course, just basic things. This week we are onto learning roses, my cake is already baked and iced with a shell border..... I needed to work on my shells.... what better way than a border.... times two.

May The Force Be With You.
Ohhhhh I got the cutest cookie cutters ever the other day!!! The decorating is the hard part, which I learned quickly. I tried a new icing recipe; color flow icing, but I didn't follow the directions after I figured out how hard it ACTUALLY is. Thus, they didn't turn out like the box they came in, but they still are cute and they taste good which is the main thing right?
We'll see what the kids think about them tomorrow. My favorite one is the Storm Trooper. :)
Yoda isn't the best, in fact he looks like a happy Gollum.... but oh well. Darth Vadar turned out alright. They are drying/hardening right now and then we will devour them tomorrow!!!

Maple Grove BS.
I filled it with blueberry pie filling. BLUEberry in honor of my good friend Maggie having a boy (which makes four kids total!!). And a BLUE cupcake for the same reason. :) Can't wait to dig into this one tonight...... good thing I ran at the gym this morning.... :)
ps. BS means "bible study".

2D Drop Flowers.
The cake for tomorrow's day shift crew has a little surprise inside. How cool is that?! Two pudding snack packs in the middle of the cake adds a nice filling that I didn't really have to take extra time to whip up. For this reason I will most DEFINITELY be having a piece of cake tomorrow. ;)
OK artist, go to town. Here are the colors I used tonight and the respective tips.
One thing I think I nailed tonight was the consistency of the icing.
TA-DA! The finished product! I really like the burgundy flowers! The color is great! My green lines are NOT symmetrical AT ALL, which bothers me, but I doubt anyone will turn down a piece at work tomorrow. HAH.

Take One- Rudolph.
I've taken on a new hobby. Cake decorating. The more I read into this hobby, the more I realize how big of a hobby this could be. And the more I realize that, the more excited I get about baking things!
I don't really care for sitting an concentrating on something for a long time (the reason I doubt I'll ever go back to school), but if it holds my interest this may just work out. And thus, the journey begins.
To start with, I did a reindeer cake. Rudolph was my first tasty treat.
The final piece looks pretty decent, wouldn't you agree? Not bad for a first timer. Frosting the sides of the cake was difficult, again having to do with the thickness of the icing. Also, I NEED to get a #789 tip, apparently that will cure some of my frustrations too. I learned I should frost the sides first, then decorate the top.... I kept smudging what I had just finished on the top when I was doing the sides.
Take One- Rated overall GOOD!
